A Garmin Nuvi 360 GPS is my favourite toy
I fabricated a GPS bracket from thin steel and it is pinched in place by the Handlebar clamps. I use thin foam strips as
spacers and Velcro to attach my Garmin Nuvi 360 (See the white velcro strips). This gives a flexible vibration/shock
absorbing mount. I use a small sandwich bag as a waterproof cover. The screen keeps most of the water off while
riding. The Nuvi gets only gets wet when I come to a halt. I transferred this home made mount from my Tiger 955i.
I think GPS is fantastic. My Garmin Nuvi 360 plays MP3's which are stored on an SD Card (up to 2GB). The voice
directions & music are automatically interrupted for Speed Camera alerts. My Garmin Nuvi was supplied with all the
Maps of Europe. It cost me £185 in 2007. Waterproofing would have been nice but the waterproof Garmin Zumo
version for bikes was £350 extra and I could not justify that. The Nuvi works equally well in the car or on foot.
Switches for my Garmin Nuvi and Heated
Grips are built into an alloy bracket that fits
onto the cockpit inner trim with Velcro and a
hidden screw.
I use "Microbud" earphones (from Sensorcom.com) for bikes,
trains, planes and other noisy environments. They are an earphone
that can play through a normal foam earplug. (I ditch the stiff foam
earplugs supplied by Sensorcom and replace them with normal soft
biker ear plugs. To fit I melt a hole in the middle with a hot skewer,
then I slide them over the Microbuds).
There are now many different in-ear phones available. When not
riding the Tiger I normally use Sennheiser CX400's but the
Microbuds are still the best on the bike if you want to eliminate
external noise. My Schuberth S1 helmet is the quietest around
however the HiFi quality of the CX400's is still lost in Tiger Screen
turbulence making Microbuds better for riding.
There is room inside the front cockpit for a pack of
sandwiches and a banana! Seriously though I easily
fitted an in-car Garmin Charger here, attached with
Velcro and I tapped into the Purple Wire
(Accessories) and black for earth. Plenty of room to
work and very nicely laid out by Triumph.
